In 1921–1922 John Garstang excavated at Ashqelon and discovered a “bouleuterion and peristyle courtyard." This area was actually probably a forum and a basilica that was constructed during the early third century A.D. It was 360 ft. [110 m.] long and approximately 115 ft. [35 m.] wide.
