Joppa appears in the biblical text 14 times. Once describing the territory of the tribe of Dan. Logs from Lebanon were floated to Joppa and hauled to Jerusalem for the building of the Solomonic and Second Temples (2 Chron 2:16; Ezra 3:7). In addition, Jonah boarded a ship bound for Tarshish from here. It is mentioned numerous times in connection with Peter's stay there—raising of Tabitha (Dorcas) and staying at the house of Simon the Tanner where he had a vision of a sheet, containing unclean animals, being lowered from heaven. (Acts 9–11)
