Tomb of Samuel 1

View of the cenotaph of the Prophet Samuel. This memorial is located in the basement of the Mosque that was built on the site in the 18th century. It is a place of pilgrimage and prayer for Jews.

According to late traditions the Prophet Samuel was buried here—in spite of 1 Samuel 25:1 that places his burial at Ramah (modern er-Ram), to the northeast of Nebi Samwil.
