Baptismal Font?

View of an octagonal “baptismal font” located in the southern nave to the Church of the Nativity. It may actually be the cover for a cistern as a corresponding shaped area has been found above a cistern.

Note the tabula ansata—smooth rectangular surface with “ears” on the short side—that may have borne a painted inscription, and the cross below it.
