Antonia Fortress

View looking north at the north wall of the Temple area (Haram esh-Sharif) - the western portion of the northern wall.

Note the bedrock behind the trees on the right side of the image. On top of this is built the Umariyya School — where the Antonia Fortress stood during New Testament times. This is the area where Roman soldiers were stationed to monitor the activities of the Jews on the Temple Mount. Paul was taken into this fortress in protective custody by the soldiers of the Roman garrison (Acts 21:27–22:29).
