Antonia Fortress

View looking southwest at the four towers of the Antonia Fortress. This fortress towers over the northwest corner of the Temple Mount—note the Temple building on the left (south) side of the image. Built by Herod the Great (37–4 B.C.), in the first century a Roman garrison was stationed there. This is the garrison that saved Paul from an angry mob (Acts 22:27–23:22).
