Staircase Leading to Double Gate

View looking east. The rough portions (the middle right portion of the image) are original. Thirty steps have been uncovered. The staircase itself is about 200 feet wide. The staircase leads up to the Double Gate.

The staircase was certainly being used during the New Testament period - and trod upon by Jewish worshipers, including Jesus and his disciples.

The southern wall of the Temple Mount runs from left to right (west to east). The Mount of Olives is visible in the upper right portion of the image.
