Grotto of the Annunciation

Below the main church is a sacred grotto that is associated with the annunciation by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would bear the Messiah.

This is the main altar in the grotto, and the words inscribed on it state in Latin “Here the Word Was Made Flesh.”
