Great Staircase
ID: TEETCRCR17

View looking west at the Great Staircase—in the top half of the image ascending from left (south) to right (north). It led up to a large gate (no longer visible) that led into and out of the Lower Palace complex. It appears that to the north of this (to the right of the image) a staircase would have led up to the citadel that towered over this area from the north.
The Staircase dates to about 760 B.C. and was destroyed by the Assyrians in 717 B.C.
