Baptistery

View of the "Baptistery" of the Basilica of Saint John. As in many Byzantine churches, the "baptistery" is located outside of the church. The theology behind this is that first one is baptized and then one enters the church.
Similar baptisteries have been found in southern Israel at Byzantine churches at Mampsis and Avdat, among others.
